Documenting Change in Laos – My Journey with ADDP

When I first arrived in Laos to collaborate with Asian Development with the Disabled Persons (ADDP), I couldn’t have imagined how deeply the experience would impact me. Working in Vientiane as a video producer was more than a project—it was a window into stories of strength, compassion, and resilience.

The Project

ADDP’s work focuses on empowering people with disabilities and creating inclusive opportunities across Lao communities. My role was to document their activities through visual storytelling—capturing lives, voices, and everyday realities in a respectful and human-centered way.

Behind the Camera

From filming training sessions to visiting local homes and community centers, every day offered a new challenge and a new face to remember. One moment that stays with me was filming a young woman learning computer skills after years of isolation. The smile on her face when she completed a task was unforgettable—and humbling.

I worked with local staff, interpreters, and ADDP leadership to ensure the stories were told authentically. The heat, logistics, and occasional power outages were real—but so was the warmth of the people.

Tools and Approach

Using Final Cut Pro and Adobe Afer Effecrs and Canva, I crafted a series of short videos for workshops and online platforms. The goal was clarity, dignity, and emotional resonance.

Why It Mattered

This opportunity gave me insight into how visual media can amplify unheard voices. I’m grateful to ADDP for trusting me with their story, and I’m proud to share a few behind-the-scenes photos and videos below.
